Mo Salah hands Egypt top spot in Group D in win over Ghana as Mali and Uganda struggle in a puddle

Seven-time champions Egypt leapfrogged Ghana to top the African Cup of Nations’ Group D courtesy of a powerful free-kick by former Chelsea flop Mo Salah.
Their reward, however, will be a return to tonight's shockingly chopped by Port-Gentil pitch on Sunday against Morocco.

Everbuying INT

Egypt won the opportunity to go ahead when Ghana's John Boye fouled Abdallah El Said on the edge of the penalty area.
Roma's Salah, one of Africa's most high-profile players, then gave his side the lead from an 11th-minute free-kick.

Powerfully striking directly into the top-left corner with his left foot, he ensured goalkeeper Brimah Razak - so impressive against Mali - barely moved.

Everbuying INT

Ghana will face DR Congo in Oyem, where Mali and Uganda ended their campaign on a pitch that more resembled a bath after heavy downpours.

Yves Bissouma’s long-range free-kick for Mali and Farouk Miya’s finish for Uganda to complete their tournament in third and fourth in the group.
In the other quarter-finals, Group A winners Burkina Faso face Group B runners up Tunisia in Libreville in the opening match of the final eight on Saturday at 5pm.

They’ll be followed at 8pm by Group B victors Senegal and Cameroon, who were second in Group A.
